I was able to get to sleep at a reasonable hour last night - around midnight but woke early in the morning with a dry throat. I got up for a drink, then answered a few emails before going back to bed. I did have trouble getting back to sleep for a while but obviously succeeded as they woke me up a bit after 9.

Our game was at 12-30 but our preparation started 2 hours earlier with a team meeting. we try to get to the ground at least an hour before the game to stretch warm up and do some practice drills. This year we again have daily awards. Last year it was a netball dress but in line with the climate this year we have a furry hat. Lidia won it today for "losing" me in the Qantas lounge in Sydney. We also have a netball trophy called Eliza which gets decorated each day. My room mate Kathleen had her turn and choose a "Dancing with the Stars" theme.

Our first game of the tournament was against NSW, who have traditionally been a fairly strong side in most grades. I started on the bench today and went on after 10 minutes or so. We started well and had a lot of the attack and had i short corner before i started on the field. Shortly after I came on I was able to intercept one of their 16 m hits and dribble back into the D. I got a pass to the spot, not quite as neat as it should have been but Karen trapped it on her reverse stick and put it in for a goal. I had a few other shots and some got combos with both Karen and Helen. I also had a short corner shot which was a bit left and a bit high. Karen has a lovely bruise just below her knee to prove it.
WE were lucky not to have a n equaliser scored just before half time. Soem how they got a long poass to a striker on the 25 who had only the goalie to beat. However Lidia came at her aggressively and forced her wide. Her shot would still have gone in but Jane had sprinted back and cleared it virtuallu off the goal line.

They had a few chances in the second half that missed while we had trouble finishing off although we did have a number of attacking moves. The goal they did score seemed to have bounced back of the attackers body and should have been our free but the umpire was behind her and didn't see it. A draw was not a bad result for either side.
Towarsd the end I noticed a Tassie friend of mine in the spectators. She and her friend had came for the last 20 minutes and when we met for a drink this evening he handed me a CD. He had taken some 90 action shots of the game, which was an unexpected bonus.
We had our photo after the game, which is never your best look, and then headed back to the city to a pool in one of the private schools. We did some walking stretching and so forth. It was a bit after 4 by the time we got back to the apartments. So our "day" took 5 1/2 hour of which about 1 1/2 is actually the game.I had just enough time to sort out a problem with a report for a client in Perth before it was time to meet up for drinks. They then headed on to a gallery opening and I caught up with the rest of our side at the Itallian restaurant across the road from the apartment. I had a very nice Chicken and avocado Fettuccine.
It wasn't till we got back to my room that I realised just ho0w many shots had been taken and called the girls in to have a look.
I also sent the match report for the Vets web site
